Make sure the cranberries are thoroughly washed and, most importantly, completely dry, as any moisture will prevent the sugar from sticking.
In a medium saucepan, add sugar and water. Stir well until the sugar is fully dissolved, then bring the mixture to a medium heat. Once the syrup starts to boil, remove it from the heat immediately.
